Keeping Kids Fed After the School Day Ends

Long Island Cares recognizes the challenges faced by children experiencing hunger, particularly when they return home after school to limited access to food and inadequate space for homework and play. In response, we introduced the Kids’ Cafe program in partnership with Feeding America, opening the first Kids’ Cafe on Long Island in 2000.

Our Kids’ Cafe programs offer:

  • Free nutritious meals to children in need
  • Safe, supervised environments where children can complete their homework and engage in educational, recreational, and social activities
  • Nutrition Education
  • Kidz Korner Newsletter, a publication featuring age-appropriate nutritional information and submissions from Kids’ Cafe participants

Operated in collaboration with community after-school programs hosted at schools, Boys and Girls Clubs, Community Centers, Churches, and more, our programs strive to enhance the quality of children’s lives. We provide essential nutrition, promote healthy eating habits, and offer support within safe, friendly, and convenient environments.
