Our Board of Directors is comprised of experts and leaders from many different industries, but are all united by Long Island Cares’ mission to end food insecurity on Long Island. The programs, services, and initiatives we provide to thousands of Long Islanders would not be possible without them.
Sandy Chapin is Board Chair chair of the board of The Harry Chapin Foundation. She also served on the board of WHY Hunger, founded by her late husband, singer-songwriter Harry Chapin, to address national hunger and poverty issues and has, in the past, been actively involved with the Huntington Arts Council. the New York State Nutrition Watch Committee, the New York State Food Council, and the New York State and Suffolk County Martin Luther King Jr. Commissions. A writer, teacher, and advocate, she is the mother of five children and grandmother of seven. Sandy is also president of Chapin Productions LLC, a license administrating and music service company handling all of Harry Chapin’s music.
Board President Dave Cassaro is currently Vice President of Dave Cassaro, Consultant, LLC, a Long Island-based consulting practice that focuses on media, marketing, sales, & executive search. Dave Cassaro joined NBCUniversal in January 2011 as President, Cable Advertising Sales, where he was responsible for cable entertainment and digital advertising sales for NBC Universal managing a portfolio of over $3.5 billion in advertiser sales and a staff of over 500 professionals. Previously, Dave was an executive at Comcast, E! Networks and Fox Broadcasting Company. . Cassaro has served as Chairman of the Cable Advertising Bureau (CAB), and also served on the Board of Directors of the IRTS (International Radio & Television Society) and City Meals on Wheels. A native New Yorker, Dave Cassaro is a graduate of Marist College with a Bachelor of Arts in communication arts. He currently resides in Garden City with his wife Mary Jane and their two dogs.
Michael Deering is Long Island Power Authority’s Director of Customer Service Oversight and Stakeholder Relations. Mr. Deering joined LIPA in 2007 with over 25 years of environmental and energy experience, having worked in both the private and public sector. Mr. Deering received a Bachelor of Arts degree from C.W. Post College and a Master of Arts degree from St. John’s University. Michael is a resident and active community member in the Town of Smithtown, where he and his wife, Diane, are the proud parents of two boys.
Larry Dunn is the senior director of marketing and sales for Island Federal Credit Union. Previously he was vice president of advertising for Newsday Media Group. Larry’s 25+year career has been in advertising roles in the magazine industry. From 1991 to 2010, Larry was the vice president and group publisher of Multichannel News, Broadcasting & Cable, Video Business, and Trade Show Week. For the past ten years, Larry also hosts a daily radio show on SiriusXM radio: Channel 33 on 1st Wave.
David Herold is a partner in the Long Island law firm of Certilman Balin Adler & Hyman, LLP, where he practices in the firm’s Banking/Commercial Lending Group and serves on the firm’s Management Committee. He is a graduate of Chaminade High School, Boston College, and St. John’s University School of Law.
David Schneidman was president and chief executive officer of Valley Stream Distributors until 1988. In addition to his involvement with Long Island Cares, David has been a volunteer of the American Red Cross since 2007.
Alan Z. Fromm is the Director of Training at Amneal Pharmaceuticals.. Alan has more than 30 years of corporate education, training, and organizational development experience. He is currently the President of Young Israel of Plainview and has held various positions on the Board of Directors there for 30 consecutive years. Alan is a licensed private pilot living in Plainview, NY, and he and his wife, Susan, are proud parents of two children.
Jim Lennon has been creating advertising photography for regional and national companies for more than 35 years with award recognition from Kodak, The Association of the Graphic Arts, The Long Island Advertising Club, and Graphic Design magazine. He has taught photography at Adelphi University and currently sits on the advisory board for the photography program at Suffolk County Community College. He has guest lectured at many other regional art and photography organizations. He is a former president of the American Society of Media Photographers–Long Island and is the vice president of the board of directors of East End Arts.
Lyle Mahler is a Partner at Farrell Fritz in Uniondale. He has extensive experience representing individuals and businesses in connection with mergers and acquisitions, capital investments, and joint venture arrangements, with a special emphasis on real estate joint ventures. He also handles a variety of general corporate matters, including the negotiation and preparation of shareholder agreements, LLC operating agreements, and various types of commercial contracts.
Mr. Mahler received his undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo and his law degree from Fordham University School of Law. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association and Nassau County Bar Association.
Carolyn Mazzenga is partner-in-charge of the Melville, New York, office of Marcum LLP, a top 15 national accounting and advisory services firm and the largest on Long Island. A member of the firm’s Executive Committee, Carolyn additionally serves as national partner-in-charge of the High-Net-Worth Individuals Practice Group. Her current professional and civic affiliations include the American Institute of CPAs, the New York State Society of CPAs, Financial Executive Women and the Board of Directors of the Long Island Association.
Marc Perez joined Bank of America in 2000 and is currently the New York City/Long Island Regional Executive for the Consumer Business. In this role, Marc is responsible for leading 120 Consumer Financial Centers across fourteen markets in Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, and Long Island. Before re-joining Consumer in 2012, Marc spent eight years in Wealth Management, serving as both The Wealth Management Banking Market Executive and Premier Banking and Investments Market Manager in New York City. Marc is actively involved in the Bank’s Employee Networks, currently serving as the Executive Sponsor for HOLA’s New York City Chapter. He is a past Regional chairperson for the Consumer Associate Advisory & Inclusion Council, Executive Sponsor for Long Island’s LEAD for Women chapter, and previous member of the Global Diversity and Inclusion council. Marc graduated from St. John’s University, where he earned a B.S. degree in finance. He also holds FINRA Series 7, 9, 10, 63, 66 and 24 licenses. He has completed the Bank of America Market Director Executive Education Program at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He proudly sits on the Board of Directors for Long Island Cares. He and his wife Maryann reside in Northport, Long Island, with his two daughters, Olivia and Julia.
Dan Siegel is currently President of Lifetime Brands, Inc. He joined Lifetime Brands in 1992 and has held various positions, most recently as Lifetime Brands Executive Vice President. He serves on the board of Grupo Vasconia, the company’s 30% partner in Mexico, and GS Internacional S/A, the company’s 40%-owned partner company in Brazil. An avid supporter of the inventor community, Dan was featured on seven episodes of Food Network’s 2012 television show “Invention Hunters.” Dan is active in community affairs and has been recognized over many years for his good works. In 2012, Dan was awarded the individual Harry Chapin Humanitarian Award from Long Island Cares, Inc. Dan lives in Lloyd Harbor with his wife Sharon and sons Riley and Brady.
Jeff Yablon is a high school science teacher in the Hauppauge School District. He led the school’s Interact and Rotary Clubs for many years. Jeff lives in Brookhaven Hamlet with his wife, Cori, and their four children.
